3D Secure is a protocol for securing online payments. It allows the authentication of the cardholder to be carried out, in order to ensure that it is the cardholder who makes the payment. This protocol works as follows:
You must provide the following information about your card
- Name of the card holder
- Expiration date
- Visual cryptogram (3 digits on the back of the card)
A new window opens with your bank's logo and you are redirected to the bank's website where your identity will be checked.
In accordance with the most common procedure, your bank sends you a one-time code by SMS. Failing this, you may be asked to enter identification information (date of birth or to answer to a personal question...). Once the authentication has been confirmed by your bank, the payment is authorised and the transaction is finalised.
To be aware:
- Make sure that the phone number on the 3D Secure identification screen matches your mobile phone number. If you have changed your number, remember to give your bank your new contact details.
- Keep your phone handy before you start a 3D Secure purchase because it is on this last one that the required code will be sent to you by SMS (text message).
- After three failed attempts to enter the code, the current transaction is cancelled and the payment card is blocked for any further use on a 3D Secure merchant site. Contact your bank to unlock the 3D Secure use of your card.
We use the 3D Secure system, implemented by banks, to fight fraud and secure payments. This is the safest system currently available.
